Joel Plainfield is a Partner at Kaplan, Williams, Graffeo & Stern LLC. Joel received his Juris Doctor from Seton Hall University School of Law where he focused on business, corporate, real estate, and securities law. Joel’s focus in these practice areas began for him during his time as an undergraduate at Boston University’s School of Management where he graduated magna cum laude with dual concentrations in business finance and business law. During his time at Seton Hall, Joel worked as a Research Assistant to Professors Tracy Kaye and Kristin Johnson and was also a member of Seton Hall’s Dispute Resolution Society’s competition team.
In his last semester of law school, Joel was also selected for participation in the Securities and Exchange Commission’s prestigious Law Student Observer Program. While with the SEC, Joel supported the investigation and enforcement of regulatory compliance matters in the securities industry ranging from everyday corporate transactions to the investigation of JP Morgan Chase for their multi-billion dollar losses in the London Whale scandal. Joel came to Kaplan, Williams & Graffeo from the Anthony Pope Law Firm in Newark, N.J. where he began as a Law Clerk and advanced to an Associate. At the Anthony Pope Law Firm Joel was specifically relied on to handle a variety of business planning and litigation matters such as completing stock and asset purchase agreements, defending involuntary bankruptcy petitions, and securing relief for clients for breach of contract.
Currently, Mr. Plainfield’s practice involves complex corporate matters, general liability, business practices, and complex business and commercial litigation. Mr. Plainfield has extensive experience in litigation matters in state and federal courts. He has successfully handled a wide variety matters from inception to verdict
